FRM: Financial Risk Management

The FRM® designation, first awarded in 1997 by the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP®), is a globally recognized standard for professionals in the financial services industry, and indicates that an individual possesses the body of knowledge necessary for independent risk management analysis and decision making.

FRM® for Whom
The FRM® exam is designed to measure skills and knowledge acquired to a large extent through professional experience in financial risk management or a related field. This includes professionals who are involved in controlling, analyzing, or assessing potential market, credit, and liquidity risks as well as non-market related risks.

FRM® Certification Requirements

In order to be certified as a Financial Risk Manager (FRM®) and be able to use the FRM® acronym after your name, the following is required:

  1. A passing score on the FRM® Examination.
  2. Active membership in the Global Association of Risk Professionals.
  3. A minimum of two years experience in the area of financial risk management or another related field including, but not limited to, trading, portfolio management, academic or industry research, economics, auditing, risk consulting, and/or risk technology.

FRM® Exam Structure

The FRM® exam is based on the core body of knowledge that contains the following topics:

  1. Quantitative Analysis (10%)
  2. Market Risk Measurement and Management (25%)
  3. Credit Risk Measurement and Management (30%)
  4. Operational Risk Management and Legal, Accounting, and Ethics (25%)
  5. Risk Management and Investment Management (10%)

FRM® Exam Registration & Fees

You may start the registration process by clicking http://www.garp.com/frmexam/register.aspx Please remember when filling in the registration form to use the name exactly as it appears on your current passport and/or government issued photo ID. You will need to bring your current un-expired passport and/or government issued photo ID for identification purposes to gain entry to the test site and the name on that identification must match the name you used to register for the FRM.
